What we are learning about...

We are finishing up our Geometry Unit this week. We will be reviewing on Wednesday and completing our test on Thursday.

Reading Workshop
We are working on our Poetry unit. Students will be learning about the different elements of writing poetry, reading different poems, and then writing their own. Different forms of poetry that we will be learning about and writing are Diamante, Color, Five Senses, and Acrostic.

Writing Workshop
We are writing opinion pieces by taking a stand on a public issue. Students have been researching the positive and negative sides of wind farms and will write an essay on their opinion.

Social Studies
In Social Studies, we are finishing Chapter 5: "Michigan Grows Up." The unit explores the economic growth of Michigan, from the pioneers using MI's natural resources to Henry Ford and the automobile industry, ending with the Great Depression. This week we will be learning about the Great Depression, reviewing the chapter, and taking the test.

Our next unit is called "Our Government & Why We Have It". We will learn about National, State, and Local Government. In this unit we will understand why we have government, services we cannot do without government, how to protect our rights, how a law is made, and different forms of leadership and planning.

Science- With Mrs. Kreyger

We are continuing our unit on Matter and Energy. We have recently been discovering more about one type of energy, light. Your child should be able to tell you some basic facts about light energy and a bit of interesting information about colored light and how colors are absorbed or reflected. Soon we'll be studying more about matter (solids, liquids, and gases) as it relates to energy.
